Ballard Bungalow

Built on a narrow, undeveloped city lot, this bungalow's design provides functional comfort for a family with two active boys. The plan utilized an existing garage at street level, breaking into a new basement from the back. The living level utilizes the top of this garage as an extended outdoor terrace on the street side. Major construction materials for the bungalow included concrete, wood, glass, steel, and gypsum.

The four-level bungalow includes:

  • A master bedroom, with a centrally-located bay window overlooking the street
  • A craft and hobby room located in the attic, with windows on the east and west as well as operable skylights that ensure the room stays cool in the summer
  • A home office with side access door and stairs
  • A terrace on the east side of the house extends the large, main floor living area out to a more private back terrace and yard
