The design for this Bellevue residence takes advantage of the bright sun exposure from the southeast, and the subtle view of a distant lake, providing the home with plenty of natural lighting and an open, airy quality. The dining room, kitchen, and family room open to the secluded rear yard with views of a greenbelt behind the home, while the master bedroom and living room overlook the lake. An outdoor fireplace and canopy and a large yard provide numerous options for entertaining. On the west exposure, the garage and a landscape wall act as a screen from a moderately busy front road. The large, low-slope roof, with ample overhangs, creates a sense of shelter and gives the home a dramatic, soaring ambience.

This home design was derived from the owner’s admiration of an existing farm building on the site. The design emulates the strong architecture of that building with the use of durable materials and simple gable forms. The board and batten siding, brick chimneys, and metal roofing make a powerful expression of long-lasting materials.

The home is integrated into its waterfront site with the use of extensive terraces and canopy roofs. An entry path cascades down to the front entry vestibule from the garages then continues down alongside the main living areas and finally off to the lakefront dock. Rooms in the home eddy off of this main path and radiate out to the site. This new grounded home posses the strong character that the owners desired and embraces the land, the lakefront, and the views.

Soldano Luth worked with the building owners to reinvigorate the exterior of this historic building in the University District. Several remodels had made the once prominent building dull and uninspiring. To transform it into the gem that it should be, a program of restoration was started. Original brickwork was exposed, pointed, and cleaned. Windows and relites that had been walled in were replaced and trimmed. Fresh paint colors now brighten the façade, and an elegant steel and glass canopy was installed. The building is now a focal point for this area of the University District, providing services, including a small inn, a pub, restaurant, coffee shop, and small grocery, for university faculty and staff. Meet me at the College Inn is an easy refrain to sing for this delightful building.

The strong lines and simple gable forms of an existing farm building on the site inform the aesthetics of this waterfront home. Durable materials such as board and batten siding, brick chimneys and metal roofing emphasize the home’s motifs of simplicity and graceful strength.

The home integrates seamlessly into its waterfront site by a series of terraces and canopy roofs. Visitors experience this by traveling an entry path that creates a sequence of spaces, beginning from the garages, cascading down to the entry vestibule, and then moving alongside the main living areas down to the lakefront dock. Rooms in the home eddy off this main path. The final result is a grounded home of strong character that embraces the land, the lake, and the views.

Soldano Luth working with the owner and an interior designer to update this Seattle Design Center showroom created an open and classic feel for the space. Fabrics and furniture are featured for purchase and review. Visitors can wander through the showroom easily and the display of furniture is loose and flexible. Fabrics are displayed in racks with swivel brackets for easy review. The simple and elegant architecture allows the items on display to take the center stage and give the showroom a quiet elegance.

This small manufacturing building in Seattle serves the owner’s business needs and houses his residence above. The classic, simple design of the building is a refreshing addition to the mixed architectural character of the industrial neighborhood. The small rooftop apartment provides a delightful cap for the commercial section of the building. Simple materials and structure keep costs reasonable and provided the space needed for a successful business, as well as a floor reserved for the owner’s hobby of restoring classic cars.

This home designed by noted architect William Bain is undergoing a renovation and addition designed by Soldano Luth. The additions help connect the home more closely to the site as well as open up the interior spaces. A favorite addition is a birds nest like loft for the owners study accessed by a steel bridge.

This home was built for a couple with grown children on an urban site with a view over the water to the University of Washington. The new home was built over an existing foundation to conserve materials. The layout is organized around the view and the creation of a loft like living space. The second floor has an easy flowing master suite and study oriented toward the view. The main floor is also open and breezy with the same beautiful views. A fireplace within a bookcase set away from the view windows creates a cozy corner for reading and relaxing.

The home is classic and elegant in form and style. It fits well within the mixed neighborhood of apartments and homes. The delightful, open and bright interior is a wonderful place to call home.

The aesthetic appeal of a large rock outcropping overlooking Puget Sound serves as the focal point for the design of this island home. The kitchen, dining room and living room, enclosed in a glass-walled pavilion, abut the rock terrace. An outdoor fireplace compliments the outcropping's natural beauty. The house bridges a small ravine to connect to a bedroom pavilion, which overlooks a private cove. The bridge contains the owner’s study and provides well-lit cover for the front entry. The three gabled pavilions fit serenely on the dramatic shoreline and help to define the surrounding outdoor spaces, at the same time providing a strong sense of shelter for activities within the home.
